Tell us about your Spray Plant 2K journey

I studied engineering at college whilst working at Spray Plant 2K part time. At college I gained an understanding of both electronic and mechanical principals as well as a further maths course. Although I didn’t learn anything about the coatings industry, it gave me the tools I needed to be able to learn and understand how things work.

I joined SP2K at 16 whilst I studied at college. My initial job was to look after the hire fleet while our other engineers looked after customers units and breakdowns. As I gained more experience I then moved onto servicing customers machines in the work shop.

Eventually I moved onto leaning how to fault find more complex problems with the machines so when customers units come in with a problem either dave shields or mark Crabtree would show me the best way to fault find on these machines.

After gaining more and more experience on a variety of machines I started visiting machines onsite to carry out services and breakdowns calls. My progress was then rewarded with a company van at 18.

After working in the workshop for 4 ½ years. I was promoted to Workshop Manager. My job now includes organising jobs for our engineers, carrying out trials with new equipment and new products, as well as visiting customers and pulling my weight in the workshop when things get super busy!

What do you like about your job?

The part I like about my job is that im always learning new things. New problems occur and new products are always being developed. I like solving problems on the more complex systems because I like a challenge and I find it satisfying to over come the problem.

What do you like about working at SP2K?

I like the fact we are a small company and work together as a team. We are always looking to improve how we do things and how to improve customers set ups. In the future I can see more and more plural component units being used to spray coatings with higher solids content (to limit voc’s) and to reduce paint waste. At sp2k we have the knowledge and experience to be able to advise customers on how to set up machines to achieve this goal.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends and family. Hobbies include watching football and going out for meals.
